Dave Murdoch and Dave Roberts. Just Do IT Guides.

Press Release 20/11/2008 – For Immediate Release

Redundancy, IT is just the job

Facing redundancy in the IT sector was the best thing that ever happened to colleagues and friends’ Dave Murdoch from Woodcote and Dave Roberts from Didcot. It gave them the push they needed to realise their long-held ambition to launch a business combining their IT careers with their respective love of filming and photography. Just Do It Guides, their new business venture offers computer beginners at home a simple understanding of computers.

The first DVD of the Just Do It Guides series is titled ‘Everyday Home Computing’ and offers advice on how to select and buy a computer and how to use simple computer tools and programmes. The DVD has already proved a big hit with ‘silver surfers’, the over 50’s who are the new generation of computer and internet savvy users.

Dave Roberts said ‘I’ve always had an interest in the moving picture and Dave Murdoch loves photography. Making the DVD has brought together these skills with our extensive knowledge of IT. Neither of us liked the jargon or over-complexity many IT people use to baffle users. Often issues are quite simple to fix when you know what to do and we have tried to present our learning modules in straightforward lay-person’s terms. Our research told as that the people we knew didn’t bother to read their ‘How to…computer books’ but were happy to have a 10 minute face to face lesson. We applied this concept to the DVD so learners can watch their TV and just dip into the modules they need to know more about’.

Dave Murdoch added ‘investing in our new venture was daunting, especially from a financial perspective but true to the Chinese proverb about eating an elephant a bite at a time we tried not to consider the size of our undertaking whilst producing and then marketing the DVD. The response to date has been amazing with daily orders coming in from Amazon from as far away as Guernsey and Tyne & Wear’.

Just Do It Guides has launched a new website promoting the national release of the DVD and during November will be running free ‘computing clinics’ at Cornerstone on 29th November and the Didcot Street Fair on 27th November to help local people resolve their computing problems. A new DVD is planned for 2009 entitled ‘Digital Photography’ and the duo need local volunteers to star in it. Contact them via their website at if you think you’ve got talent or to find out more about their free computing clinics.
